The end of an era: Dyspraxia Foundation closes after decades of disability awareness

The closure of Dyspraxia Foundation a few days ago on April 20th is really sad to see as someone with lived experience of dyspraxia.

The official statement on the Foundation’s website cites ‘enormous long-standing financial challenges’ as the catalyst for the closure.

Additionally, the weight of lack of awareness also seemed to have reducing funding opportunities: “as one of the lesser-known types of neurodivergence, despite our hard work to rectify this, dyspraxia continues to often be near the bottom of the pile for support.

Finally, the statement urged supporters to persist and ‘continue their compassionate efforts to make a positive impact in the dyspraxic community.’

The organisation’s closing comes as a shock to most within the dyspraxic and neurodivergent community.

Ultimately, the work done by the organisation will be preserved. The approach to the rollout of the archive is due to be announced.
